Woodside Vineyard

Shaw + Smith's 42 hectare M3 Vineyard at Woodside was planted in 1994 and takes its name from owners Michael and Matthew Hill Smith and cousin Martin Shaw. This vineyard consistently produces outstanding Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc with great concentration and fruit purity. All grapes are hand picked. The soils are sandy loam over red-yellow clay with some shale. Average altitude 420 metres.

Chardonnay Block

The primary source of the M3 Chardonnay which is a blend of the respected I10V1 clone and the exciting new Bernard clones from Burgundy. The vines are close planted, low yielding and trained using a vertical shoot positioning system.

Sauvignon Blanc Block

This low yielding, mature block is the heart of our Sauvignon Blanc. Vines are cane pruned and use an arched cane pruning system. Canopy Management plays an important role in controlling herbaceousness and achieving perfect flavour development.
