2008 VINTAGE REPORT

End of Vintage Report, 2008 : by Martin Shaw

A near perfect run up to harvest with no frosts, good flowering and a very cool February.  A 15 day heat wave in early March resulted in a fast and furious grape intake and challenged all our resources.  Despite the last minute heat, the quality is good - particularly flavour and palate.

Sauvignon Blanc: the flavours are more in the tropical and less herbaceous spectrum. Palate weight is good.

Chardonnay: M3 looks terrific. Yields were average but the quality is very promising.

Shiraz:  The March heat wave resulted in all Shiraz ripening at once - fortunately we had the fermentation capacity to accommodate this.  The wine has great colour, good flavour and structure.
