Reviews

Ray Jordan - The Western Australian - September 2021

Cracking good vintage has produced this cracking good savvy. These guys were one of the first to get this thing called sauvignon blanc happening and it is continuing to be an incredibly reliable and popular wine. Crisp, pure and immensely flavoursome. Restrained tropical fruit and a twist of lemon to lift and there you go. Oh, and a sprinkle of dried herbs. 93/100

Erin Larkin - The Post - September 2021

Handpicked, cool ferment in stainless followed by maturation on lees, this is the 32nd vintage of the S+S SB. It is a wonderful vintage that is cool, long and restrained. A touch of sweat, thiol and funk on the nose alongside oodles of sweet sugar snap peas, crunchy spring florals and iceberg lettuce. On the palate there is the addition of juniper, cassis, white currant, and lemon pith. Another great release - this wine is iconic for a reason. 94 Points

Angus Hughson - Wine Pilot - September 2021

The wine that put Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc on the global map, and it is in stellar form with not only bright, pure and powerful fruits but also fine detail and complexity. Primarily passionfruit and honeydew melon aromas with hints of green bean and citrus provide a delicious youthful vitality and freshness. It is followed by quite a full and generous palate for sauvignon blanc underscored by tangy acidity. This is a sauvignon blanc with plenty of flavour that is finely balanced and finishes with subtle herbal complexity. Enjoy with King George Whiting and gently steamed greens. 93 Points

Tony Love - InDaily - July 2021

Even with this wine’s remarkable consistency over 30 years, it still shows vintage variation when coming from a cooler season such as the 2021, ripening slowly for heightened aromatics sitting somewhere between snow pea and citrus, including leaf, flower and fruit. The flavour senses bring all that together with peppery spice and a touch of sorrel, entertaining the palate with great, pithy grapefruit texture. In founder Martin Shaw’s words: “It’s as good a Sauvignon as we’ve put out in recent years. We’re thrilled.” And so they should be.

Nick Stock – jamessuckling.com – June 2021

A very strong vintage for this popular Adelaide Hills sauvignon, it sits in a deliciously ripe yet fresh zone and is bathed in peach, nectarine, green-mango and passion-fruit aromas and flavours. Delivered in straight-up, drinkable mode on release. 94 points

Winsor Dobbin - Ciao - August 2021

The 2021 vintage has just been released - and it remains a market leader. Think grapefruit, citrus and guava notes with very brisk acidity. A wine to be enjoyed in all its youthful playfulness.
