Growing and Making

Production Notes
Sourced exclusively from Shaw + Smith's Lenswood property. Planted in 1999, the vineyard has east and west facing aspects and reaches 500 meters above sea level. The soil is brown loam over clay with some broken shale and stone ridges.Whole bunches were chilled overnight, then pressed, before fermentation in new and used 500 L French oak puncheons. The wine spent a further 10 months in barrel with gentle stirring.

Story

Winemaker Notes
Since purchasing the vineyard in 2012, significant investments have been made to further enhance the site. It had always shown potential for a single site wine and in 2014 a small amount was selected for our first 'Lenswood Vineyard' Chardonnay.

TOP GOLD - 2018 James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge

GOLD - 2019 Royal Melbourne Wine Show

GOLD - 2019 James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge

James Halliday - Wine Companion - October 2019

All four Bernard clones 76, 95, 96 and 277, then the usual winemaking techniques, but the quality of this wine is anything but usual. For the record, chilled overnight, whole-bunch pressed to new and used French puncheons. This is an utterly brilliant wine, elegant and intense, the fruit flavours reflecting the glorious vintage. 98 Points.

96 Points, James Suckling - June 2019

Superb refinement and elegance from this high-altitude vineyard source. This has a peach and lemon edge with hints of honeysuckle and grilled white peaches. There’s an intense acidity kick here. Power delivered with elegance. Grilled hazelnuts to close. Drink or hold.
